Gorgeous Southern Alberta Alpine Golden Trout

Alberta is so lucky to have golden trout in several alpine lakes. You either rent some helicopter time or tighten up your hiking boots for a steep stomp or should I say crawl to around tree line. Steve and Taryn decided to hike up to one of the lakes that holds golden trout in southern Alberta. The hike is steep and takes about 3 hours if you are travelling light. You have to do a bit of route finding to get the adventure started. You get great views of the Castle Ski Area as your heart pounds and you slowly gain elevation! Steve said that it was a hot day so they took their time.

Small dry flies were the ticket on this day. Taryn's small adams got the first hook up and as time went on both Steve and Tarytn got lots of "eats." The crystal clear water allowed both Taryn and Steve watch the trout cruise and inspect their imposters.

Taryn and Steve both waded out in their shorts on a flat to cast.

As you can see, the goldens are beautifully coloured and quite spectacular!

Well done you two! I bet your feet were a lot lighter on the way back to the trail head!
